We cannot claim that pizza is particularly “healthy”, but it doesn’t hurt to indulge every once in awhile.  At least the quality is under your control when you make it yourself (with a little help). The dough is the stumbling block for most cooks, so we urge our members to find pizza dough already made.  Pre-cooked crusts are second best but work in a pinch, or if you are feeling adventurous make your own!*.  See what your store has to offer and then enjoy the wonderful taste of this cheesy pizza.

Ingredients:

1 pizza dough/crust -- medium or large
2 tsp oregano
2 tsp cumin
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp pepper
1 cup(s) olive oil
28 oz(s) spaghetti sauce -- look for organic
3 oz(s) tomato paste
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp red pepper flakes
10 oz(s) mozzarella cheese -- sliced thin

Directions

Prep Work: Combine oregano, cumin, paprika, and pepper in small bowl; set aside.  If making the pizza dough, punch it down after it rises and store in ziplock in refrigerator.

1.    Pour spaghetti sauce in skillet.  Add tomato paste, oregano, garlic salt, and red pepper flakes.  Simmer on low while rolling crust.

2. Heat oven to 450 degrees and oil a baking sheet.

3. Roll the dough on lightly floured surface to the shape of baking sheet, 1/8” thick.  (If using a precooked crust, simply place on oiled baking sheet.)

  4.  Spread 1 ½ c. sauce over crust.  Slice and evenly distribute cheese over top of
.      pizza.  (Freeze all extra sauce for next time or to add to a soup later.)

  5.  Sprinkle oregano mixture evenly over all.  (Sprinkle with diced, fresh parsley too if desired.)

6. Bake at 450 degrees for 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned for rolled dough, or follow cooking instructions for prepared crust.  Slice.
